Biography: I am a Research Assistant Professor at Kno.e.sis - The Ohio Center of Excellence in Knowledge-enabled Computing. Kno.e.sis currently is a multidisciplinary Ohio Center of Excellence in BioHealth Innovation involving computer scientists, cognitive scientists, biomedical researchers and extensive clinical collaborations. Before joining this dynamic group, I have worked with the Eldercare and Rehabilitation Technology team at University of Missouri from 2008 to 2014. I defended my Doctoral dissertation in July, 2014. Specifically, I have used vision based sensors to unobtrusively monitor older adults or patients in hospital settings to detect health changes and activities in a non-invasive manner. Some of the activities I have worked with are sit-to-stand detection, trend analysis of behavior using parameters centered around this activity, patient motion in the bed in hospitals, and studying ADLs i.e. activities of daily living using depth sensor data. I am currently interested in innovative technological solutions to address healthcare needs, specifically in the eldercare research areas.
