Biography: Mr. Sahlin is a leading technical expert in the fields of Systems Engineering, distributed computing network design, and managed hosting services. He has over 18 years’ experience designing, building, and sustaining distributed computing networks for commercial and DoD clients. He successfully applied his expertise in the Application Service Provider (ASP) / Managed Services Provider (MSP) industry to SAIC and the Navy by recommending a revised network design for SPAWAR based on the MSP industry standards. He executed a shipboard proof of concept project demonstrating the efficacy of this design for tactical environments. His technical leadership directly resulted in the authorization and funding of SPAWAR’s first ACAT I Acquisition Program, the CANES Program of Record. John is currently leading a number of technical feasibility studies for the Navy, one of which is projected to result in a FYDP cost avoidance exceeding $200 Million for the Navy Enterprise. He has presented his research on Quality of Service metrics for Cloud Computing at a number of national technical conferences this year, and his research is the basis for a chapter in an upcoming book on Cloud Computing edited by Drs. Kevin Yang and Liu Lu from Cambridge University.
