Abstract: This paper investigates the development of a remote patient monitoring system based on WBAN Wireless Body Sensor Network. Thus, the main purpose of such design is to interconnect heterogeneous sensor networks not equipped with the HTTP / TCP / UDP stack. A novel gateway architecture is proposed to ensure interoperability and facilitate seamless access to data from different types of body sensors that communicate via different technologies, namely, Bluetooth, IEEE802.15.4 / Zigbee and IEEE 802.15.6. Moreover, an application-layer approach for a Web Service Gateway is also developed for interaction with heterogeneous WSN. The Gateway communicates with the server via the SOAP protocol and manages the service consumption. Since the proposed platform is targeted to monitor the patient health status, a preliminary link test between the sensor and the server is unavoided in terms of quality of service. To evaluate the performances of our proposed platform, a results comparison was conducted based on different communication scenarios (3G, ADSL, and LOCAL). Finding results illustrate the (QoS) constraints, namely, Latency, Packet loss and Jitter.
