Biography: Maria A. Grado-Caffaro (ma.grado-caffaro@sapienzastudies.com) is a physicist with a doctor degree in Informatics who has over 30 years of experience as consultant, lecturer at graduate and undergraduate level, communications officer and researcher in a variety of electrical an electronic engineering themes and industries. Currently she works as a scientific consultant and is also partner of a consultancy firm, Sapienza-Studies. She is active in EU funded research as expert for programmes as Eureka (2013, 2012), Space (2010, 2008), NMP (Nanosciences, Nanotechnologies, Materials and new Production Technologies 2010, 2004), Marie Curie, (and also former eContent, TEN-Telecom and ESPRIT). She has participated in a 30 month European Union funded project on Wireless Sensor Networks for critical and emergency applications and in another on knowledge transfer best practices. She also has acted as collaborator for a 36 months project (ROSE-Development and Investigation of Robotic Elements for Safety and Security) leaded by the Institute of Robotics and Technical Cybernetics in St. Petersburg, Russia, under ISTC R&D programmes www.istc.ru and finalized in 2012; in the context of this project she was member of the organizing committee of the International Exhibition-Congress “Mechatronics and Robotics (M&R-2007)” October 2-5, St Petersburg, Russia. She is co-author of more than 290 papers dealing with physics and related technologies in peer-reviewed international journals and has acted as reviewer for a number of them. Intelligent Systems applications, their multi & cross-disciplinary aspects and their strategic aspects are within her recent areas of interest drawing from her experience in her EU funded research. She is member of the New York Academy of Sciences.
