El Sayed Mahmoud, PhD Professor, Applied Computing Sheridan | Get Creative T: 905 845 9430 x5050 El Sayed Mahmoud received his PhD in computer science from the University of Guelph, Canada in 2012, and joined Sheridan in 2013. In 1991, El Sayed began his career as a software developer at ECS (a software house in Egypt). In 1994, he became a computer instructor at AICT, a computer institute that has certified partnerships with Microsoft and Edexcel in the Middle East. In 1995, he was promoted to branch manager at AICT. In 1997, he achieved a Microsoft-certified trainer status and was promoted to regional manager. In 2006, El Sayed started his graduate studies at the University of Guelph and worked for the university as a research assistant. In 2008, he received a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Guelph and started his PhD at the same university. El Sayed’s research interests include machine learning and multi-objective optimization using genetic algorithms. His current research focuses on developing robust machine learning algorithms for addressing challenging patterns in health, business and privacy applications. El Sayed has published six peer-reviewed papers and given four seminars on machine learning at international conferences.
